Waiting for June
Lifestyle and Daily Shenanigans with a dash of Nerd Appreciation thrown in.

Originally, I had plans to post a different music post, but I realised almost immediately that it would have taken a rather long time to get it done considering my schedule (of packing, studying, more packing, et cetera) and thus I decided to take a different route. Earlier today, someone retweeted a tweet that I originally made late last month asking for people who were Bandcamp and/or SoundCloud artists to send me their stuff to check out because I need new music. Towards the original post, I actually hadn't gotten any responses and I think it was mostly because of the timing of the tweet.

Nonetheless, I a couple hours later, I was mentioned by a band named Zeit and asked to check out their newest EP. So I decided to do it in my own way and introduce them to you as I am getting introduced to them at the same time...therefore, it's an experience for all.

So 가자!

Zeit (which is German for the word time) is a four piece band that hails from Göteborg (Gothenburg), Sweden. Consisting of members Erik Engblom, Cecilia Nord, Erik Jonsson, and Björn Alm, Zeit is a band that combines the genres of Noise, Pop, and Shoegaze to create one beautiful sound. Their music has been described as "pop music that makes you feel like you're travelling through a long-abandoned ghost town, with a body full of tranquillizers." As of September of this year, Zeit has released one EP ( Life Is Just A Blur) and one full length album (the self titled, Zeit).

So what do I think of Zeit? I dig them a lot. I've only listened to Life Is Just A Blur, but I absolutely love their sound. When it comes to bands that play music that fits under the genre of Noise, whether or not it's combined with something else, I tend to find it hit or miss and miss is far, far too often. However, when I listened to the Life Is Just A Blur EP, I was amazed. Partly because I went into listening to the album not expecting much and came out loving it, but also partly because it took me by surprise just how good it was. See, Zeit is the type of band that combines so many elements of different genres and makes them combine in a way that not only enthrals you, but leaves you shivering in the aftermath. Combing Shoegaze and Noise is hard enough, but adding in the element of soft Pop, is mind boggling and as a band, they pull it off amazingly.

I've no idea whose the main vocalist, as they are still relatively new for me, but who it (or they) is(/are) know what they are doing. The vocals are soft in comparison to melodies that are subtly tantalising and thoroughly daunting, haunting and just the slightest bit of something in between. And really, it just works. I normally have a thing for stronger vocals in certain genres of music, but rarely (and I mean, rarely), there is a band or an artist that just has the right amount of vocal prowess that I find myself loving how they sound when the vocals are softer. In some weird way, Zeit reminds me a bit of the song "Fey Wolf" from the soundtrack of the game, The Path.

Overall, I really, really fancy the sound that Zeit brings forth and when I get paid next, you can assure that I will be purchasing their music and adding it to my playlists to play as long as I can. You can check out their EPLife Is Just A Blur below and visit their bandcamp to listen to the album Zeit.

So, that's that and I hope you guys go on and take a listen to the band. They're actually really, really lovely and I think you lot will like 'em...at least to some extent. What's an artist you listen to that you think I might be interested in? Any song, album, or EP recommendations? Leave them in a comment below and we can have a fun little chat about musical happiness.
