Waiting for June
Lifestyle and Daily Shenanigans with a dash of Nerd Appreciation thrown in.

Listen y'all, before you read this post, just go on ahead and click the song at the beginning of this post and jam to it. Of course they'll be a couple more links to songs throughout the post, but just listen to "Kick Ass (We Are Young)" first cause MIKA is godly and we are not worthy of that perfect ass vocal range. Yaaas. (If you can't view that link, click here.)

Anyway, I suppose I owe you lot an explanation as to why I've not been consistent with my postings yet again. Well, I won't go too in depth, but combine the fact that I'm looking for an apartment, packing, and cleaning with the fact that I'm updating the blog again by creating a new layout and you have a big ball of exhausted Yasu. Let's not even bother factoring in what a social life is cause I don't know at all. Seriously.

Nonetheless, today's post is a huge as mess of various things. The first part will be on the topic of Books and it stems from a Books Q&A I saw over at Water Painted Dreams. The second part an autumn blog tag that's now floating around. The third part is a different take on the currents that I normally do and inspiration is taken from Elise of Elise Dopson's third edition of Sunday Sum-Up. And as usual, the end all be all of this post will be my ranting and opinions and frustrations. I would say that profanity was going to be a thing, but I'm trying to cut down on it. So maybe not.

Man, these introductions to posts are getting longer. Can you imagine the massive text wall that's hiding beneath the read more?

[If you want to skip this post and read something that is more engaging, you should check out my last post: BA★STAR Stardust Loose Mineral Shadow Review.]

questions & answers: book edition

Shockingly enough, I'm actually really excited to do this Q&A. It's not as evident here on the blog as it is when you get to know me in person, but one of the six major things I get extremely excited for is books. I'm a complete book nerd and the amount of books I've read probably rivals and surpasses the amount of movies I've seen (and that's a lot). So I'm excited because of that, but also this gives me a full reason to chat about the stuff I've read and liked or disliked. There are a total of 22 questions and I'm completely pumped for this.

1. What are you reading right now?
— Currently, I am reading Full Dark, No Stars by Stephen King and Wonder by R.J. Palacio. I started Full Dark, No Stars quite a bit ago, but I thought I misplaced the book and had to stop reading. Recently, I found the book again and decided to start reading it all over again from the begin despite having bookmarked where I left off.

2. Do you have any idea what you'll read when you're done with that?
— I'm thinking of reading some Keats poetry or maybe A Midsummer Night's Dream again. Cause I love Keats and Shakespearian works are among my favourites. [Maybe Much Ado About Nothing would be a bit of fun to read too.]

3. What 5 books have you always wanted to read but haven't gotten round to yet?
— This sounds weird but if there's a book I want to read, I will actually read it. For some reason, it's uncomfortable for me to want to read a book and not read it. It makes me feel jittery and stuff. So I don't think there's a book, let alone five books that I haven't gotten around to reading that I desperately wanted to read.

4. What magazines do you have in your bathroom/lounge right now?
— For years, I hated magazines. Magazines to me were the most dreadful bit of crap I could ever get my hands on and to this day, I still feel that way...for the most part. Despite feeling that way, I do know that like many other things in life, there are quite a few gems within the massive pile of shite released. The magazines I have and keep around are Shape, Taste of Home, ULTA, (a single edition) Vogue, and B & H Photo Video. Also, I'm so unconventional that I don't keep my magazines in the bath or the lounge, but rather under my pillow or in a rucksack. 'm not joking. (And yes, I said rucksack. Let's make this a thing.)

5. What's the worst book that you've ever read?
— Oh my goodness. If you follow me on Twitter, you will know that there are two books that I consider the disgrace to all things written and/or existing. Twilight and 50 Shades of Grey. I'm not going to touch Twilight right now. Just know that hatred stems for shite writing, characterisation, pacing of plot, lack of imageric writing, lack of proper metaphors, and glittering vampires.

Now when it comes to 50 Shades of Grey, there is no amount of anything that can make me appreciate that book. No amount of money, Asian food, cream cheese frosting, Subway sandwiches...nothing that you offer me can make me like that piece of shite. First of all, it's an eroticised version of Twilight; it's already on a major decent. Second, the main characters are angering and have no proper characterisations nor developments in terms of them. Third, and the major reason for hatred and anger, it's giving something that people consider a way of life and/or a means of sexual, mental, and emotional contentment and making a mockery of it. BDSM is not about "inner goddess" and contracts (and I know she didn't bloody sign it, I read the bloody thing) and abusive Dom(me)s. BDSM above anything is a relationship. It might not be a romantic relationship, but it is a relationship and trust is a huge part of BDSM. You are not to be forced to sign a contract like you're signing your soul over, but rather talk about where and what your limits are (in fact, limits are pretty big thing in the BDSM). Your Dom(me) is not to abusive (there is a difference between pain that gets you off and pain that genuinely hurts and destroys you) in any manner. Your Dom(me) is supposed to trust you as much as you trust them. I could go on and on about how it really just took everything about BDSM and shat on it like it didn't matter. It's offensive to me (as well as many others) because I am a Dom(me), well a Dominant Switch, and to see someone not even try to get it right is saddening. And so, E.L James, you can drink battery acid and fall head first off a cliff for all I care. You get no respect from me.

And anyone who likes that book and praises it...you can drink battery acid too. Dead serious.

6. What book seems really popular but you actually hated?
— See previous answer.

7. What's the one book that you recommend to just about everyone?
— Like Hayley's answer, I'm going to have to say The Perks of Being Wallflower. Both the book and movie are amazing and really, it's so beautifully written.

8. What are you favourite 3 poems?
— One does not simply choose 3 favourite poems. It's impossible. Nope.
Though, anything Keats, Poe, Shakespeare, T.S. Elliot written is amazing.

9. Where do you usually get your books?
— Borders (before it closed down. RIP), Amazon, eBay.

10. Where do you usually read your books?
— Anywhere really, unless I'm in the middle of an important conversation or meeting.

11. When you were little did you have any particular reading habits?
— Well, it's still a bit like this, but if I am reading, my mind zones out and only focuses on what I'm reading. It's like an out of body experience and someone taking my attention away from it and dragging out of that zone is really, really bad for me.

12. What's the last thing you stayed up half the night reading because it was so good you couldn't put it down?
— I recently read The Perks of Being A Wallflower again and I could not put it down to save my life.

13. Have you ever 'faked' reading a book?
— That's so childish, in my opinion. Why would you fake that?

14. Have you ever bought a book just because you liked the cover?
— Nope. I've picked up a book because the cover looked interesting, but I don't buy or get a book unless I've read the first couple pages and the last page to determine whether or not I'll like it.

15. What was your favourite book when you were a child?
— My goodness, I had so many. Romeo & Juliet, A Series of Unfortunate Events, Harry Potter, Eragon, and anything related to Norse or Greek Mythology.

16. What book changed your life?
— I think that for me, Harry Potter changed my life. I think because it was a huge body of work that touched on everything from all the forms of conflict, to the ideals of morality, the skewing and understandings of beliefs, and just everything. To me, Harry Potter is one of those series that encompasses so much of life without it being obvious and overbearing and for someone who grew up inhaling fiction like it was oxygen and taking bits and pieces of said fiction to compare it to their own life and learn from it, Harry Potter was such a huge thing for me.

17. What is your favourite passage from a book?
There are a couple, but the one I'll use is one from the book I'm currently reading, Full Dark, No Stars, and it comes from the story 1922:

“I believe that there is another man inside of every man, a stranger, a Conniving Man. And I believe that by March of 1922, when Hemingford County skies were white and every field was a snow-scrimmed mudsuck, the Conniving Man inside Farmer Wilfred James had already passed judgment on my wife and decided her fate. 'Twas justice of the black-cap variety, too. The Bible sayss that an ungrateful child is like a serpent's tooth, but a nagging and ungrateful Wife is ever so much sharper than that.”

This is actually one of my favourite passages from this particular story because it's so dark and twisted and accurate. The idea that inside every (wo)man lies a Conniving (Wo)Man is so true that it's mind-boggling. But the real steal for me is the way that this passage is written, it's told from a first person's point of view and the usage of third person point of view in the manner that it was used and taking in the context of the story makes it so deliciously twisted and creepy that every time I go back and reread that, I can't help but try to resist the urge to applaud Stephen King's ability as a writer aloud.

18. Who are your top 5 favourite authors?
— I have a lot of people I adore, so I won't list a top 5 cause I don't have a top 5. I will, however, tell you five I love. J.K Rowling, John Greene, Stephen King, John Keats, William Shakespeare. And two extras: Lemony Snicket and Dr. Seuss.

19. What book has no one heard about but should read?
— Holy shit. There's one that I wanted to put and it literally flew out my head the moment I came to type. Maybe I'll remember it later, then I'll comeback and edit this.

20. What is your favourite book from a first time author?
— Honestly, I don't think I can remember any. If there were first time author's I read, I didn't care enough to know if they were or weren't.

21. What 3 books are you evangelist for?
— Hmm... I have to think about that, actually....

22. What is your favourite classic?
— I decided to go look up a list of what's considered a classic book (cause my ideals of classic are totally different), so I'm going based off the list I found at GoodReads. A lot of the classics are my favourites. From 1984 to Romeo & Juliet, The Great Gatsby, and Pride and Prejudice to Lord of the Flies (which was fucking amazing. A MUST READ.). I love 'em. Also, I condemn you if you're a close friend of mine and have never read nor appreciate the perfection that is The Count of Monte Cristo.

Aaaand that's it! Dear goodness. This really did take a bit of time to do, but it's totally fun and amazing.

the autumn tag

Man, it's been forever since I've done a tag aside from the ones I'm doing in this post. Especially a tag that's based around something. I'm not going to lie. Reviews, tags, and music posts are probably my favourite things to do on this blog and since I haven't been really doing reviews or music posts lately (I promise that'll change soon..life is too hectic to do all that right now), I'm trying to do a bunch of tags that I find enjoyable and seeing this tag float around, I realised I actually really found it interesting and had to do. Unlike the Books Q&A, this tag only has 10 questions and is relatively shorter.

1. Favourite thing about it?
— ...

2. Favourite drink?
— Chai Tea wih milk, a bit of vanilla, evaporated milk, and peppermint mocha creamer. Trust me, it's heaven.

3.Favourite scent/candle?
— Vanilla (but it always is), pumpkin pie, and pumpkin spice.

4. Best lipstick?
— Anything that lasts long, is moisturising, and is a dark or intense red or plum-red. I get my life from those lipsticks.

5. Go to moisturiser?
— Clean & Clear Morning Burst Hydrating Gel Moisturiser.

6. Go to colours for the eyes?
— Definitely the neutrals. Nothing black or what, but definitely, browns and oranges.

7. Favourite music or band/singer to listen to?
— I like to listen to softer music when Autumn/Winter rolls around. So I listen to a lot of ballads and indie and shoegaze music. Specifically some of Demi Lovato's ballads and Ed Sheeran and things like that. The only really upbeat artists are can handle in Autumn are Fall Out Boy, Panic! At The Disco, and MIKA.

8. Favourite outfit to wear? → (i.e. boots & a scarf combo)
— I don't have one...I don't think. I guess my off-white sweater dress, leggings, and a pair of (heeled) boots.

9. Autumn treat? → (i.e. a new scarf or bag you have your eye on)
— I don't tend to purchase anything much during autumn for reasons unknown, but I do also appreciate a proper tote bag or rucksack.

10. Favourite place to be?
— In bed, under my covers, and curled up with a mate or partner of mine. Especially while nursing a good cuppa.

the currents

So seeing as I missed my next volume of Embarrassments & Current Loves, I decided to do it here and now and in a shorter format. Oh and do me a favour, and definitely check out the links amongst this currents list, especially the music links. ♥

Watching: I'm rewatching Hannibal, Game of Thrones, Firefly, BBC Sherlock, Wallander, and Code Lyoko.

Most of the shows link to Hulu and only Code Lyoko has all the episodes free on Hulu, Hannibal only has three episodes up, and Firefly only has 5 episodes free. Game of Thrones links to HBO where you can watch all of that show. Both Sherlock and Wallander link to BBC, but if you live outside of Europe (I believe), you cannot watch the episode. That being said, you most definitely need to watch all these shows cause they're amazing. Plus, if you're a Joss Whedon fan (and who wouldn't be? Joss is a fucking God and you will deal.), Firefly is a fucking must watch.

Wearing: Absolutely nothing. Not going to lie. I'm avoiding makeup for a while and I'm too stressed out to be wearing makeup (breakouts anyone?!).

Reading: Full Dark, No Stars by Stephen King and Wonder by R.J. Palacio.

You can buy Full Dark, No Stars here (and I recommend the paperback editon.) and you can buy Wonder here.

Books + Snacks: My copy of Full Dark, No Stars (Paperback) and two vegan sausage biscuits. Yum!
Smelling: Nothing. Gatorade has no smell...so nothing.

Thinking: “Why don't things ever go right for me? I'm so tired of it.”

Buying: Only Subway sandwiches. Gah, they're such a bloody addiction.

Wanting: To breathe and be content and happy.

Feeling: Everything wrong.

Loving: Everything related to the arts. Music, books, movies, cooking, web design, illustration, cosmetology, et cetera. Loving it all.

Listening: Definitely listening to + (Deluxe Album) by Ed Sheeran, MIKA's entire discography, Demi Lovato's DEMI ("Heart Attack" is copyrighted.) and UNBROKEN albums. Also, I've been lurking the Shoegaze tag on Bandcamp and I'm falling super in love. Definitely a new favourite genre of music. I totally recommend the bands Victoria, Positive No, Hello Daylight, Hudson, Colosseum Blood, and Wasted Fangs.

It's the end!!! Well, the ending of the main parts of this post. Now here's here things get a bit more rambly and I am definitely not apologising for it at all cause this is really important. That being said, there's a lot of things to be said and a lot of things I wish to get your opinions for.

Let's start with the opinions. I'm planning on starting a Book Club for the blog, but in a more unconventional manner. Rather than a post dedicated to the book club, I want to do it in an email format. What I'm planning is this: Much like most, if not all, book clubs, every month a new book will be chosen to be read. The first two books to be read will be chosen by me. However, any ones after the first two can be recommended/chosen by you guys. In order to join the book club, you'll have to sign up to an email newsletter which is how the book club will be shared. All the information, "assignments", and fun bits will be organised and put into an email that will be sent out to everyone subscribed. And before anyone asks, you are only getting one email per week that includes "assignments" and whatever else. When the ending of the month rolls around, I'll post up a huge post of my favourite responses to the assignments, a couple quotes, and a review (short or long, depending) of the book and a way for people to sign up if they haven't already. I happen to really, really enjoy this idea, but since this is an idea that is for not only myself, but you readers, I want your opinion on that.

Another thing I need your opinion on is the idea of starting a podcast or a series of posts. One of my fellow bloggers (and a good mate as well), Sinead (check her out! ), brought to my attention that she rather enjoyed my opinion and outlook on things. She also mentioned that she'd be totally on board with me writing a book (but Gods no, I could never...I don't believe I'm eloquent enough for it), but instead I brought up the idea of a series or a podcast. Maybe something that's done once a week on topics that I feel necessary to talk about or topics that have been sent in or asked for me to talk about and offer my opinion on. I'd be open to getting email asking advice or my take on how I'd handle situations and all that stuff. I don't think I'll hold back on the profanity because out of this blog, I'm a hugely profane person and I can't help it, especially when excited or heated about something. Now, I'm in between doing a podcast or a series of posts because while I don't mind doing posts, they are extremely tiring and time consuming especially with this kind of thing. On the flip side, I detest my voice and have a tendency to stutter a lot, so maybe podcasts with that may throw some people off. Or maybe the idea sucks. What're your opinions on that?

Finally, this isn't an opinion but more of a huge clusterfuck of ideas and things. First: I am still updating the blog layout. Lately things have not been going well in my personal life and I'm stressed and exhausted and not gonna lie, extremely depressed. So my mind, let alone my creative abilities, are shot with everything going on. The new layout is not much different and I kept the colour scheme; I just changed around the way it looks and is designed. Second: Fuck Miley Cyrus and her excessive nudity, her ridiculous attitude, her outfits, her inability to keep her tongue in her mouth, and her slightly racist endeavours. I like her music, but I can't fucks with someone who acts like their shit don't stink. Fuck the fact that 50 Shades of Grey is getting a movie. Fuck ignorance. Fuck anyone that embraces and approves of ignorance. Finally: Someone needs to buy me a ticket to London so I can visit and see someone really important to me. Not to mention I'm tired of being where I am.

On an ending note, I'll be slower and slower with my updates again because life and I'm studying again...self teaching like the autodidact I am. I love you all though; never forget!

Before you go! Remember to follow me on Bloglovin' or subscribe to the blog via email to catch all the updates from the blog and yes, the Bloglovin' link has changed with the URL and blog name change. Also, catch up with me by reading my tweets on Twitter and checking out my pictures on Instagram.

Until next time, lovies. Remember, I love you like I love cream cheese frosting. Well, I love you like I love strawberry cake topped with cream cheese frosting. Nomnomz.
